GOVERNANCE & SUSTAINABILITY

Environment & Conservation

The Group’s environmental initiatives support both the local communities and the ecosystems they depend on by promoting responsible resource management, conservation efforts and eco-friendly practices.

From time to time, the Group organises awareness programmes on waste reduction and encourages the adoption of reuse, reduce, and recycle habits. The REplace Project, a joint CSR Project by PPB and PPB Properties launched in 2023, aims to foster sustainable living and environmental consciousness among local communities across the Group’s retail projects. Megah Rise Mall serves as the flagship location for The REplace Project. Through the concepts of REcycle, REgrow, Recharge and Repurpose, the project encourages the Petaling Jaya community to embrace green in their daily lives.

From 2022-2025, PPB partnered with Global Environment Centre (GEC) on a stream restoration project in Taman Tugu, a secondary urban forest park in Kuala Lumpur. Spanning over 66 acres, Taman Tugu is home to with 230 indigenous Malaysian rainforest tree species, with more than 1,000 trees have been tagged for preservation. The park is open to the public and frequently used as an outdoor classroom to promote environmental conservation among the urban communities. In 2024, PPB expanded its partnership with GEC to support the Peatland Fire Prevention Project. This project protects the Southeast Pahang Peatland Landscape and prevents fires during the drought season through community-based patrolling. The project not only helps to protect the peatland but also creates job opportunities for the Orang Asli.

In 2023, PPB and FFM partnered with Pertubuhan Pelindung Alam Malaysia (Pelindung), an NGO advocating tiger conservation within the Titiwangsa range in Peninsular Malaysia, by contributing 56 camera traps and 2,000 ready-to-eat meals to support rangers conducting patrols and wildlife surveillance. PPB continued its support in 2024 by equipping three teams of 15 orang asli rangers with essential equipment including waterproof digital camera, Garmin GPS, satellite phone etc to carry out anti-poaching patrols. PPB Properties also showed its support through a conservation event, The Claws & Conservation weekend in partnership with Pelindung and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia at Cheras LeisureMall. The event featured interactive sessions with wildlife conservation experts, educational exhibitions, displays with actual Malayan tiger specimens, and a children’s art competition.
