Malayan Adhesives And Chemicals Sdn Bhd (MAC), a 99.6%-subsidiary of Chemquest Sdn Bhd, manufactures formalin, adhesives and other intermediate resins as well as Phenoset® microspheres for a range of industries.
MAC core businesses include:
Formaldehyde - based resins for Reconstituted Wood Adhesives, Microspheres, Phenolic Tackifiers, Inorganic Insulation Materials and Foundry
Acrylamide - based resins for Dry Strength Agent in recycled paper.

Formalin
Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring organic compound which has a characteristic strong and pungent odor. It is an important precursor to many other materials and chemical compounds. One major use of formaldehyde solution is in the manufacturing of adhesives resins for plywood, fibreboard and particleboard for residential and commercial construction.

Reconstituted Wood Adhesives
The formaldehyde-based adhesives used are the thermosetting types which cure and harden by the action of heat or catalyst. Most common types used in reconstituted wood adhesives (plywood, particleboard and fibreboard) are Phenol formaldehyde (PF), Urea formaldehyde (UF) and Melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF).

Microspheres
MAC being the world’s only producer, marketed this fully cured thermoset Phenoset® microspheres which are used for weight reduction and as a functional filler in aerospace, automobile, marine and other composites.

Phenolic Resins
An alkyl phenol formaldehyde used as phenolic tackifier which particularly effective in chloroprene adhesives (solvent based) and as fortifying agent for coating.

Dry Strength Resins
A polyacrylamide (PAM) type to improve the dry strength properties of paper, improves drainage, increases the retention of fines and reduces the BOD & COD in recycle paper production.

Inorganic Insulation Resins
This resol type phenol formaldehyde binder has low viscosity and high water dilutability for easy spraying through the injection nozzles onto inorganic fibres.

Foundry Resins
Highly alkaline phenolic resin used as a binder in no-bake foundry system which provides good mixing with sands for better casting quality.
